He has served in the Indian Army from June 1982 to December 2009. He was nominated as a member of the Allahabad cantonment board. He was COO defense image processing and analysis center. He is tech-savvy and has managed diverse areas from inventory management, safety, security, logistics to advanced technologies in the areas of telecommunications and signals. Hold the distinction of being selected by Army HQ for the first-ever Indian project to computerize war-gaming.

When he was a service delivery manager with Nokia, he took Karnataka circle to gold class within 4 months. He has governed a township and managed municipal services for 2.5 years.

Col Gudi has a management (MBA) degree from FMS University of Delhi,  M.E(Computer Science & Engineering) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, M.Sc(Strategic Studies) from Madras University, Chennai,  B.Tech (Electronics & Communication Engineering) from JNU and B.Sc from JNU through National Defence Academy, Pune. He has completed each of these academic pursuits with 1^st class and distinction.

He has also successfully completed a course conducted under the aegis of the Government of India (Ministry of Defence) on Corporate & Industrial Safety & Security. He is a fellow of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers and received a silver medal and distinction in BTech

He is married to Mrs. Vinodini Gudi who is a homemaker. Son Amogh Gudi and daughter Apoorva Gudi are both engineers.
