Message from the CEO – Heavy rains in Bengaluru

0 0

The last few weeks has seen rains pound the city, with many parts flooded. News reports are full of pictures of residences marooned in knee-deep water and waterlogged roads.

Electronics City has not had any major issues, as ELCITA’s focus has been on prevention and careful planning for monsoons. The team diligently ensures drains are desilted and pothole fixed not just before monsoons start, but as a regular maintenance activity throughout the year.

The challenges of the city prove that rejuvenating lakes and clearing connecting rajakaluves are critical.  Else we are doomed to see the same story repeat year after year. Meanwhile, in a few months, our water problems reappear because much of the water runs off without being able to recharge and replenish groundwater aquifers. The need of the hour is citizens and governments working together to solve the inter-connected problems of flooding and water scarcity. Quick joint decisions and action are required by all stakeholders.
