Electronics City Industrial Township Authority
Many of you may have noticed some trees being cut inside Electronic City in the recent past. This was a hard decision that we at ELCITA have had to take.
There is a critical need for pavements and widening of the road in some areas of Electronics City to facilitate the movement of pedestrians and smooth flow of traffic. Currently, there are no pavements in some places, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road. This has caused several serious accidents in the past.
There is also a need to ease traffic and prevent congestion so that employees can reach their office on time without speeding, which may further lead to accidents. Given a choice between the safety of human lives and trees, we have to choose lives over trees. We are committed to keeping Electronic City a green space and would never cut trees without considering alternatives.
For felling these trees, we approached the forest department as per the rules. The DCFO (Deputy Conservator of Forests) gave permission only after being completely convinced about the need. The Forest Department have themselves taken up the task of tree cutting.
In order to compensate for the cutting of trees, we have in the past transplanted some of them and would be doing so in the future too. We have also been planting saplings in and around E-city to increase the green cover and mitigate the trees cut.
