The rivers which have been nurturing us for thousands of years, today, are shrinking at an alarming rate. Perennial rivers have become seasonal, Ganga and Indus are amongst the world’s 10 most endangered rivers. By 2030 we will have only 50% of the water that we need for our survival.

One very simple yet effective means to replenish these rivers is to create a kilometer-wide green cover on riversides (and half a kilometer for tributaries). Trees normalize rainfall, their roots make the soil porous, which increases the soil’s ability to hold water. This absorbed water is slowly released into the river and ensures a perennial river flow.

However, to ensure that this solution is actually implemented, we have to act now and support the rejuvenation of our rivers. Rally for Rivers is a project that aims at reviving the rivers of India and would be executed in 3 phases. First is an awareness phase, second a Government policy formulation phase and third is the implementation phase.

As a key first step, we have launched the Rally for Rivers awareness campaign focused towards building a mass momentum across the nation along with a TV, Social Media Campaign, a motor rally across the country and many other publicity events. Sadhguru, the founder of Isha Foundation, will himself be driving from Kanyakumari to the Himalayas with various chief ministers, government leaders, and celebrities participating in different legs of the journey. Events will take place across more than 20 cities to galvanize public support to revive our rivers. The rally will culminate on Oct 2 in Delhi where the River Rejuvenation Policy Recommendation will be presented to the Government.

IT industry can play a vital role in spreading the awareness for the need to rejuvenate the Rivers of India. As a big segment of India’s youth is associated with IT industry their support would be valuable. We request your cooperation to help us get in touch with various business units and offices in Electronic city, to create awareness among the employees and maximum participation from the citizens in support of Rally for Rivers missed call campaign.

The objective of this campaign is to make this initiative a people’s movement and highlight the need for urgent action. We will be happy to share the communication mail that can be used for this purpose.
