Water Management
Towards a Water Positive Future
ELCITA is leading the way in sustainable water management, ensuring every citizen enjoys access to clean and safe drinking water while championing the recycling and reuse of wastewater. By integrating innovative technologies and smart infrastructure, ELCITA is proud to have achieved Water Positive status for its own operations in 2025, now setting its sights on transforming the entire township into a Water Positive community by 2027.
Key Initiatives:
1. Freshwater
Since 2013, ELCITA has been providing freshwater to its member companies. We source water from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and our own borewells. Our storage infrastructure includes a 1.5 MLD underground reservoir (UGR) and a 45 HP pumping system. Currently, we receive 1 MLD of water from BWSSB and 50 KL from borewells, which is distributed to member companies through water tankers.
At ELCITA, we prioritize the responsible use of water. Thatâs why weâve introduced smart solutions, such as water meters, pressure sensors, and real-time quality monitoring, through our I-Connect platform. Weâve also set up a 100 KLD softener system to treat hard water, ensuring it meets top quality standards (BIS: 10500:2012). Together, weâre making every drop count.

2. Rainwater harvesting
ELCITA is dedicated to sustainable water use. Our advanced rainwater harvesting and recharge systems have restored 2,024 KL and 592 KL of groundwater and store up to 160 KLD of rainwater for future needs. We ensure responsible usage and long-term resource protection championing water conservation and environmental resilience.   Â
Three types of rainwater harvesting solutions:
1. Injection Wells â 43 wells built, each 3 ft à 60 ft
2. Recharge Pits â 37 pits built, each 3 ft à 20 ft
3. Harvesting Tanks â 4 tanks within our jurisdiction, with capacities of 30 KL and 50 KL (Two each)
Demonstrating our commitment to environmental sustainability, ELCITA has developed 23 rainwater recharge pits at various companiesâ sites.

Together, these initiatives ensure responsible water use while supporting long-term sustainability.
3. Wastewater
To support the townshipâs industries, ELCITA has built multiple sewage treatment plants with a total capacity of 1,927 KLD. Using advanced technologies like (Extended Aeration Activated Sludge System (EAAS), Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR), Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR), Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), and Soil Biotechnology (SBT) are various wastewater treatment technologies, we treat around 1600â1800 KLD of wastewater daily turning it into a valuable resource for sustainable growth
ELCITAâs STPs are powered by smart meters connected to our i-Connect platform and an advanced SCADA system, allowing real-time monitoring. This ensures 95% efficiency while meeting all KSPCB standards under the Water & Air (Prevention & Control) Act.
3.1 State of the Art 1.6MLD MBR Plant
ELCITA has a 1,600 KLD Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) STP at East Phase, Electronics City. The plant treats sewage from nearby villages and industries through underground sewer lines.
Equipped with energy-efficient electro-mechanical systems and an innovative acoustic wood
design, the plant keeps noise levels below 65 dB, 99% as per KSPCB limits, meeting the standards.
With a fully automated SCADA system, operations are seamless and efficient. The advanced membrane technology ensures 99% treatment efficiency, while UV sterilizers further purify the water by eliminating biological impurities, delivering high-quality treated water that meets the highest standard.

3.2 300KLD Plant (EAAS)
ELCITA has completed a 300 KLD Extended Aeration Activated Sludge System STP at East Phase, Electronics City. The plant treats sewage from industries and KSSIDC through underground sewer line of 1.5 KM.
With a fully automated SCADA system and upgraded energy-efficient equipment, operations are smooth and effective. Our advanced aeration system achieves 98% treatment efficiency, while UV sterilizers ensure the treated water meets the highest quality standards.

3.3 10 KLD SBR Plant
ELCITA has completed a 10 KLD Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) STP at West Phase, Electronics City, treating sewage from the ELCIA office building with reliable and eco-friendly technology.

Recycled Water

At ELCITA, we recognize the importance of water recycling. We utilize over 90% of treated water for non-domestic activities such as gardening, landscaping, construction, and road wash. Additionally, we sell recycled water to member companies for their landscaping and construction needs, further contributing to sustainable water management.
Enhanced Facilities
Our approach not only conserves precious freshwater resources but also empowers member companies by providing them with high-quality recycled water, supporting their operational and development activities. These initiatives promote environmental stewardship, reduce dependency on freshwater supplies, and reinforce a culture of sustainable growth and responsible resource utilization.
